This will always be a special catch. Not just because this is a decent fish for the small backyard water it came from, but because this was my daughter’s first trip to this spot to camp overnight. The presence of mountain lions here, the rattle snakes, the off-road trail in all contribute to why I waited so long to expose her to this. I thought the summer before 5th grade was a great time for her to experience the next level of responsibility and opportunity. This was her first exposure to protective firearms, safety and protocol. We explored some new creeks and camped out for a couple nights. Good times.

Why I love fishing with my daughter:

•She always wants to net my fish over fishing herself
•She always respects the fish and kisses them goodbye
•I’ve never seen her freak out and lose her cool with a big fish
•She loves the bugs and science behind it all
•She is my number one human to be around

I met this dude fishing in the same section of the creek a bunch of years ago. I still remember the very day we were so stoked to finally net a fish after hooking 50+ and fighting half of them….but never landing one in the net. The last 20 minutes of the day, he figured it and started roping fish after fish to the net.
We have both come a very long way over the years, and it’s so great to spend a day out on the local water where our friendship and lessons in fly fishing would become more.
This dude has mentored me in the ways of being a father, a husband and a man of God. He shows up to stream clean ups, he is always turning people onto fishing and sending them my way for flies.

This fish is one in 10,000 that will be over 8” in this section of creek.

We’ve been locating some stand out fish, and this one is a prime example of how these little wild rainbows can become heart thumping trophies on small water.
Nice work @erichmunzner well done. You devoted the day to the single dry…and it paid off big time.
